Cocktail Base

Mezcal Float

Optional Flavor Add-Ins (Add $1 each)

Method

Glass Prep & Garnish

  1. 1

    Rim the glass

Rub the lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Dip the rim into coarse salt or Tajín to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.

  2. 2

If serving on the rocks, fill the prepared glass with fresh ice and set aside. If serving up, chill the glass in the freezer or proceed without ice.

Mixing the Margarita

  1. 3

    Combine base ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add reposado tequila, fresh lime juice, triple sec, and agave nectar. If using one optional flavor add-in, add it now (blood orange juice, muddled jalapeño slice, or grapefruit).

  2. 4

    Add ice and shake

Add a generous handful of ice (about 4–6 oz) to the shaker. Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well chilled.

  3. 5

    Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass: over fresh ice for a rocks presentation or neat into a chilled coupe for a 'small' / up presentation.

Mezcal Float & Finish

  1. 6

    Float the mezcal

Using the back of a bar spoon, gently pour 0.5 oz smoky mezcal over the top of the cocktail so it rests as a float. Pour slowly close to the surface to maintain separation.

  2. 7

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. If you added jalapeño, consider a thin slice on top; if citrus additions were used, a complementary citrus twist works well.

  3. 8

Serve immediately and instruct guests to sip so they experience the smoky mezcal float first, then the balanced margarita beneath.
