Cocktail

Method

Prep

  1. 1

    Chill and juice

Chill the copper mug or glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes if desired. Cut a fresh lime in half and squeeze about 1/2 fl oz (roughly 1/2 of a medium lime) of juice; reserve a wheel or wedge for garnish.

Build the cocktail

  1. 2

Fill the chilled mug or glass with large ice cubes or crushed ice to the top (about 1 cup). The ice both chills and gives the drink its signature frosty exterior in a copper mug.

  2. 3

Pour 2 fl oz vodka over the ice.

  3. 4

Add the fresh lime juice (about 1/2 fl oz) directly on top of the vodka.

  4. 5

Top gently with 4 fl oz chilled ginger beer. Pour slowly along the inside of the glass to maintain carbonation.

  5. 6

If using, add 1 dash of Angostura bitters on top to add aromatic complexity. This is optional but traditional in some bars.

  6. 7

Stir the drink once gently with a bar spoon (1–2 turns) to integrate the lime and vodka while preserving effervescence.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 8

Garnish with the reserved lime wheel or wedge on the rim or floated on top. Add a mint sprig by slapping it gently between your palms to release oils, then tuck it beside the lime (optional).

  2. 9

Serve immediately while fizzy and cold. Provide a short straw if desired.
