Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Juice lemons

Roll a fresh lemon on the counter to loosen juices and cut it in half. Using a juicer or reamer, extract fresh lemon juice until you have 1 oz. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a jigger or small measuring cup to remove seeds and pulp.

  2. 2

    Build and shake

Add 2 oz vodka, 1 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz triple sec, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Add 6 ice cubes, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold and slightly frosted. Vigorous shaking chills and dilutes the cocktail to balance acidity and alcohol.

  3. 3

    Strain

If you prefer a chilled, neat cocktail, double strain the mixture through a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer into the prepared glass to catch ice shards and any pulp. If you like your Lemon Drop on ice, pour over 2–3 fresh ice cubes in the glass.

Garnish & Glass

  1. 4

    Prepare the rim

Run the lemon wedge around the rim of a chilled coupe or martini glass to moisten it. Pour 1 tablespoon granulated sugar onto a small plate and gently dip the wet rim into the sugar, rotating to coat evenly. Tap off any excess sugar.

  2. 5

    Garnish and serve

If you strained into a glass without ice, place a lemon twist on the rim or float it in the drink. If served on ice, drop the twist into the glass. Serve immediately so the sugar rim remains crisp. Provide a small cocktail napkin or coaster.
