Optional Finishing
Method
Margarita Mix
- 1
Juice
Zest one small orange lightly (optional for aroma) and set aside. Juice enough limes to yield 1 cup fresh lime juice and juice one lemon to yield 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice. Strain juices through a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and seeds into a measuring cup.
- 2
Combine
In a small mixing pitcher, combine the strained lime juice (1 cup), strained lemon juice (1/4 cup), agave nectar (1/2 cup), orange liqueur (3/4 cup) and 1/4 cup filtered water. Whisk briskly until the agave fully dissolves and the mixture is uniform. If you reserved orange zest, stir it in now for an aromatic lift.
- 3
Chill
Transfer the mix to a sealed container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors marry. This yield is approximately 2 cups of Boss Margarita mix and will keep in the fridge up to 5 days.
Cocktail
- 4
Prepare glass: rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Spread coarse salt on a small plate and dip the rim into salt to coat. Optionally, for smoked salt, combine 1/2 tsp smoked sea salt with the coarse salt before rimming for subtle smoke.
- 5
Add ice to a cocktail shaker until half full.
- 6
Pour tequila: measure 12 tablespoons (equivalent to 6 ounces) of reposado tequila into the shaker.
- 7
Add fresh lime juice: add 1 oz fresh lime juice per drink into the shaker.
- 8
Add mix: add 2 oz (4 tablespoons) of the chilled Boss Margarita mix into the shaker.
- 9
Shake: Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well chilled.
- 10
- 11
Garnish: Express an orange twist over the drink (if using) to release oils, run it around the rim, then drop it in. Add a lime wheel or wedge on the rim.
- 12
Serve: Present immediately. Recommend serving size is one glass per guest.
Yield & Notes
- 13
Yield: The mix recipe makes about 2 cups (approx. 16 oz), enough for about 8 servings when using 2 oz mix per drink. Adjust tequila proportionally: the template uses 6 oz tequila total which corresponds to multiple servings—measure tequila per drink as 2 oz reposado for a standard ratio if you prefer (this recipe uses a bolder 3 oz tequila per drink if making single-serve portions).
- 14
Storage: Store leftover mix refrigerated up to 5 days. Shake before using if separation occurs.
