Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

Combine Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta, ricotta cheese, egg, chopped basil, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix until well combined.

Layer the Dish
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a greased baking dish, spread a layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Add the pasta mixture on top, then pour remaining marinara sauce over the pasta. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese on top.

Let the baked dish rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired.
