Chocolate Cake
Chocolate Frosting
Method
Chocolate Cake
Prepare the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
Bake the Cakes
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cakes
Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Chocolate Frosting
Prepare the Frosting
In a medium bowl, combine the cocoa powder and softened butter. Mix until smooth and creamy.
Add Vanilla and Milk
Stir in the vanilla extract and milk, mixing well.
Incorporate Powdered Sugar
Gradually add the powdered sugar to the mixture, beating until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
