Sauce

Method

Prepare the Sauce

  1. 1

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Sauté Garlic

Add 4 teaspoons of minced garlic and 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the pan. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the 28 ounces of canned crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Add Fresh Basil

Once simmering, mix in 1 cup of chopped fresh basil. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes.

Cook the Meats

  1. 5

    Cook Italian Sausage

In a separate skillet, cook 1 pound of Italian sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it into smaller pieces as it cooks.

  2. 6

    Combine with Sauce

Once the sausage is cooked, add it to the simmering sauce. Stir well to combine and let it cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Cook Pasta

  1. 7

    Boil Pasta

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook 1 pound of pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 8

    Combine with Sauce and Chicken

Add the cooked pasta and 2 cups of sliced grilled chicken to the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta with the sauce mixture.

Assemble and Serve

  1. 9

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the pasta mixture into a large baking dish.

  2. 10

    Add Cheeses

Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and 1 cup of shredded provolone cheese evenly over the top.

  3. 11

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  4. 12

    Serve

Remove from oven and let it cool slightly. Serve hot, garnished with 0.5 cups of grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
