Dumpling Filling

Method

Making the Dumplings

  1. 1

    Prepare the Filling

In a skillet over medium heat, add sesame oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Add the chopped mushrooms and cumin seeds, and cook until the mushrooms are soft and any liquid has evaporated, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the dashi stock, soy sauce, and green onions. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.

  2. 2

    Make the Dumpling Wrappers

You can use store-bought dumpling wrappers or make your own by mixing flour with water until a dough forms. Roll the dough into small circles, about 3 inches in diameter.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Dumplings

Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the filling to create a half-moon shape and pinch the edges to seal tightly.

  4. 4

    Cooking the Dumplings

Steam the dumplings in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper for about 10-12 minutes or until the wrappers are translucent. Alternatively, you can pan-fry them with a bit of oil and water for a crispy bottom.
