Main Ingredients

Russian Dressing

Method

Preparing Russian Dressing

  1. 1

    Make the Dressing

In a bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of prepared horseradish, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 teaspoon of paprika. Mix well until smooth.

  2. 2

    Season the Dressing

Add salt and black pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference and set aside.

Assembling the Reuben Sandwich

  1. 3

    Toast the Bread

Lightly toast the rye bread slices until golden brown, either in a toaster or on a skillet over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Layer the Ingredients

On two slices of toasted rye bread, layer the corned beef (or pastrami/turkey), followed by the sauerkraut, and top with a slice of Swiss cheese.

  3. 5

    Spread Dressing

Spread a generous amount of the prepared Russian dressing on the other two slices of toasted rye bread.

  4. 6

    Combine and Grill

Close the sandwich with the dressing side down on top of the cheese. Grill the sandwich on a skillet over medium heat, pressing down gently with a spatula, until the cheese is melted and both sides are golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side.
