Burger Patty

Method

Prepare Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mash Beans

In a large bowl, mash the canned black beans with a fork until mostly smooth, leaving a few chunks for texture.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

Add the cooked quinoa, grated carrot, diced bell pepper, chopped onion, minced garlic, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

  3. 3

    Add Binder

Stir in the breadcrumbs and beaten egg until the mixture holds together. If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs until it can form patties.

  4. 4

    Shape Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

Grill the Patties

  1. 5

    Preheat Grill

Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.

  2. 6

    Cook Patties

Lightly oil the grill grates and place the patties on the grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are nicely browned and heated through.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare Buns

Toast the whole grain burger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.

  2. 8

    Assemble Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a grilled veggie patty, a slice of avocado, a slice of tomato, and a generous dollop of chipotle mayo. Top with the other half of the bun.
