Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peeling the Plantains

Using a sharp knife, carefully cut off both ends of each green plantain. Make a lengthwise slit along the peel without cutting into the flesh. Gently peel away the skin, discarding it.

  2. 2

    Slicing the Plantains

Once peeled, slice the plantains diagonally into 1-inch thick pieces. This will allow for even frying.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heating the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping in a small piece of plantain; it should sizzle immediately.

  2. 4

    Frying the Plantains

Carefully add the sliced plantains to the hot oil in batches. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even cooking.

  3. 5

    Draining Excess Oil

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried plantains from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Seasoning

While the plantains are still hot, sprinkle them with salt to taste. Toss them gently to ensure even seasoning.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plating

Arrange the fried plantains on a serving platter. You can serve them as is or with optional toppings like sour cream, salsa, or grated cheese.

  2. 8

    Enjoying

Serve immediately while hot and enjoy the crispy, savory goodness of Platanos Frito!
