Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Protein

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add your choice of protein (chicken, beef, tofu, etc.) and season with cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the protein is fully cooked and browned, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Beans

In a separate pot, heat the canned black beans over medium heat until warmed through, about 3-5 minutes. You can add a pinch of cumin for extra flavor if desired.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Rice

If not already cooked, prepare the rice according to package instructions. You may also add a pinch of salt to the water for flavor.

Assembling the Burrito

  1. 4

    Layer the Ingredients

On the large flour tortilla, begin layering the cooked rice, black beans, and your cooked protein in the center of the tortilla.

  2. 5

    Add Optional Toppings

If desired, add shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, chopped lettuce, and chopped tomatoes on top of the layered ingredients.

  3. 6

    Roll the Burrito

Fold the sides of the tortilla inwards over the filling, then roll the tortilla from the bottom up to fully enclose the filling. Ensure the burrito is tightly wrapped.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Cut the burrito in half if desired and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious homemade burrito!
