Ice Cream Base Preparation

Mix the Base Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, whisk together heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and mixture is warm.

Chill the Mixture
Remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until completely chilled.
Flavoring (Vanilla or Chocolate)

Prepare Vanilla Flavor
For vanilla ice cream, simply add 1 more teaspoon of vanilla extract to the chilled mixture before churning.

For chocolate ice cream, whisk the cocoa powder into the chilled mixture until fully incorporated before churning.
Churning and Freezing

Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to manufacturer instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

Transfer the churned ice cream into an airtight container. Freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
