Directions

1

Prepare the Prime Rib

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Pat the prime rib roast dry with paper towels. Rub the olive oil all over the roast, then season generously with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

2

Sear the Roast

In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Sear the roast on all sides until it is brown and caramelized, about 3-4 minutes per side.

3

Roast the Prime Rib

Place the seared roast in a roasting pan and insert a meat thermometer. Roast in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue cooking until the thermometer reads 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare, about 1.5-2 hours.

4

Make the Sauce

In the same skillet used for searing, add the remaining butter, beef broth, brown sugar, red wine, rosemary, and thyme. Simmer over medium heat until slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.

5

Rest and Serve

Once the prime rib is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing. Serve with the sauce drizzled over the slices.
