Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Prime Rib
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub the prime rib roast with olive oil and then coat it evenly with the spice mixture.
- 2
Sear the Roast
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add butter. Once melted and hot, sear the prime rib on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 3
Caramelize the Roast
Transfer the seared prime rib to a roasting pan. Sprinkle fresh rosemary and thyme over the roast. Combine beef broth, red wine, and brown sugar in the roasting pan around the meat.
- 4
Roasting
Roast the prime rib in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue to roast for an additional 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare.
- 5
Rest and Serve
Remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing. Serve with the pan juices drizzled over the slices.
