Preparation

Cooking Directions

1. Prepare the Catfish

Rinse the catfish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

2. Make the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until well combined.

3. Mix Dry Ingredients

In another bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

4. Coat the Catfish

Dip each fillet into the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the cornmeal mixture to coat evenly.

5. Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

6. Fry the Catfish

Carefully add the coated catfish fillets to the hot oil (do not overcrowd) and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.

7. Drain and Serve

Remove the fried catfish from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
