Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water (about 110°F/43°C) with the active dry yeast and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt until well combined.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until a rough dough forms.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a bit more flour as needed.
- 5
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while the dough is rising.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into two equal portions for two crusts. On a floured surface, stretch or roll out each portion into a 12-inch round, creating a slightly thicker edge for the crust.
- 8
Final Rise
Place the shaped dough on a pizza stone or baking sheet. Cover with a cloth and let it rest for another 15-30 minutes.
- 9
Ready to Bake
Once the dough has rested, it is ready to be topped with your favorite ingredients and baked in the preheated oven.
