Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and lightly dust them with flour.

  2. 2

    Melt the Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until completely melted and smooth.

Mixing the Batter

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  2. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In the bowl with the melted chocolate and butter, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 5

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill the Ramekins

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins in the preheated oven and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

Serving

  1. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes.

  2. 9

    Invert and Serve

Carefully run a knife around the edges of each cake to loosen. Invert onto individual plates. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
