Onion Strings

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the sweet onions and slice them thinly into rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Whisk together until well mixed. Gradually add the buttermilk, stirring until a smooth batter forms.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Batter the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Strings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried onion strings with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with Rae Rae sauce.
