Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it is hot enough before baking the cornbread.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
- 3
Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted unsalted butter until fully combined.
- 4
Combine Ingredients
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- 5
Prepare the Baking Dish
Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or a similar sized oven-safe dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- 6
Bake the Cornbread
Pour the cornbread batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool and Serve
Remove the cornbread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Cut into 4 pieces and serve warm.
