Method
Baguette Preparation
- 1
Mixing the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the bread flour, salt, and active dry yeast. Gradually add the water while mixing until a rough dough forms.
- 2
Kneading
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 3
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 4
Shaping the Baguette
Once risen, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long baguette, about 12 inches in length.
- 5
Second Rise
Place the shaped baguettes on a floured baking sheet or baguette pan. Cover with a cloth and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- 6
Preheating the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while the baguettes are rising.
- 7
Scoring and Baking
Using a sharp knife, make a few diagonal slashes on top of each baguette. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- 8
Cooling
Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
