Calamari

Sweet and Sour Marinara

Method

Prepare the Marinara

1

Make the Marinara Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, sugar, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, then stir in fresh basil before serving.

Prepare the Calamari

2

Prepare the Breading Station

Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour mixed with paprika, another with beaten eggs, and the third with breadcrumbs.

3

Coat the Calamari

Dip the calamari rings first in the flour mixture, then in the beaten eggs, and finally coat them in breadcrumbs.

4

Fry the Calamari

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the breaded calamari in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serve

5

Serve Hot

Serve the fried calamari immediately with the sweet and sour marinara sauce on the side.
