Pirozhok Pastry

Method

Making Pirozhok

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, milk, melted butter, and egg. Knead until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Filling

In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Sauté onion until translucent, then add ground beef (or mushrooms for vegetarian) and cook until browned. Stir in grated carrot, season with salt, pepper, and dill. Allow to cool.

  3. 3

    Assemble Pirozhok

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Cut into circles, fill with the prepared filling, and seal the edges. Place on a baking sheet.

  4. 4

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Prepare Dill Sour Cream Sauce

In a bowl, mix sour cream, dill, lemon juice, and salt to taste. Serve alongside the baked pirozhok.
