Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Preparing the Meat Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Cook Ground Beef

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. If using, pour in the red wine.

  5. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving the Dish

  1. 9

    Combine Spaghetti and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the meat sauce and toss gently to combine.

  2. 10

    Plate and Garnish

Serve the spaghetti Bolognese in bowls, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
