Method
Tortilla Chips
- 1
Prepare the Corn Tortillas
Cut each corn tortilla into 6 wedges to form chips.
- 2
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
- 3
Fry the Chips
Carefully add tortilla wedges in batches to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
- 4
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the chips from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with salt while they are still hot.
Queso
- 5
Melt the Cheeses
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the Velveeta cheese and cream cheese. Stir until melted and well combined.
- 6
Add Remaining Ingredients
Stir in the diced tomatoes with green chiles, milk, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- 7
Heat Through
Continue to heat the mixture, stirring frequently until all ingredients are heated through and the queso is smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
- 8
Garnish (Optional)
If desired, stir in fresh cilantro before serving for added flavor.
