Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Apizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to its highest setting (usually around 500°F or 260°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out one portion on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle.
- 7
Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread half of the canned tomato puree over the base, leaving a small border around the edge. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and oregano. Top with mozzarella cheese and fresh basil.
- 8
Bake the Apizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Serve
Remove from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice and serve hot. Repeat the process with the second dough portion.
