Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping the Knots

  1. 5

    Shape the Knots

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 10 inches long, then tie into a knot.

  2. 6

    Second Rise

Place the knots on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Garlic Butter Preparation

  1. 7

    Melt the Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Add minced garlic, chopped parsley, and salt. Stir and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to infuse the flavors.

Baking and Marinara Sauce

  1. 8

    Bake the Knots

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the knots for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  2. 9

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. Stir in fresh basil before serving.

  3. 10

    Finish with Garlic Butter

Once the knots are baked, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture while they are still warm.
