Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer and stir until smooth.

  2. 2

    Heat the oil

In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Batter the fish

Dip each cod fillet into the batter, ensuring it's well-coated.

  4. 4

    Fry the fish

Carefully place the battered cod fillets into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Cook the fries

While the fish is frying, prepare the frozen French fries according to package instructions, either baking or frying.

  6. 6

    Make the tartar sauce

In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, and lemon juice. Set aside.

  7. 7

    Serve

Plate the fried fish with French fries, coleslaw, and a generous side of tartar sauce.
