Method
Nori Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Sushi Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to the package instructions. Once cooked, transfer the rice to a bowl.
- 2
Season the Rice
In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat gently until sugar dissolves. Pour the mixture over the warm rice and gently fold it in. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
- 3
Assemble the Nori
Place a nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down. Wet your hands to prevent sticking and take a handful of sushi rice, spreading it evenly over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.

- 5
Roll the Nori
Using the mat, carefully roll the nori away from you, pressing gently but firmly. Continue rolling until you reach the exposed edge of the nori. Seal the roll with a little water.
- 6
Slice and Serve
Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into bite-sized pieces. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
