Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the nut filling

In a food processor, combine pistachios, walnuts, and ground cinnamon. Pulse until finely chopped. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the syrup

In a saucepan, combine honey, water, sugar, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. 3

    Assemble the baklava

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Layer half of the filo dough in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter. Spread the nut mixture evenly over the top. Layer the remaining filo dough on top, brushing each layer with melted butter.

  4. 4

    Cut and bake

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Add syrup

Once baked, remove from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot baklava. Allow to cool completely before serving.
