Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- 7
Add the Sauce and Toppings
Place the rolled-out dough onto a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread 1/2 cup of tomato sauce over the base, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, followed by pepperoni slices, bell peppers, onion, and fresh basil. Finish with a sprinkle of oregano, salt, and pepper.
- 8
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the preheated pizza stone) and bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- 9
Slice and Serve
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes, slice it into wedges, and serve hot.
