Method
Pizza Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Tomato Sauce Preparation
- 5
- 6
Cook Sauce
Add the canned tomatoes (crushing them with your hands) to the saucepan. Stir in salt, black pepper, and dried oregano. Let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Assembling the Pizza
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 8
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- 9
Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread a layer of the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute it evenly over the sauce. Drizzle with olive oil.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the hot pizza stone or a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Top with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve hot.
