Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

Make the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully add the coated onion rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
