Prepare the Pickles
Drain the dill pickles and slice them into thick chips.

Make the Batter
In a bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk.

Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Dip and Fry
Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture. Carefully place the coated pickles in the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.

Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with house-made ranch dressing.
