Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.
- 2
Brown the Meatballs
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of EVOO over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the meatballs and set aside.
- 3
Make the Sauce
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of EVOO. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute. Pour in the San Marzano tomatoes, breaking them up with a spoon. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer.
- 4
Simmer the Meatballs
Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let them simmer in the sauce for about 20 minutes.
- 5
Serve
To serve, place a few meatballs on a plate, spoon over the sauce, and top with a dollop of ricotta cheese and fresh basil. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
