Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix together until a dough starts to form.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone inside if you have one.

  2. 7

    Prepare Pizza Base

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

  3. 8

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pizza base, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and scatter them over the sauce.

  4. 9

    Drizzle with Olive Oil

Drizzle the olive oil over the top of the pizza and sprinkle with salt.

  5. 10

    Bake the Pizza

Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  6. 11

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
