Pasta

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Macaroni

Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of mustard powder until smooth.

Combining

  1. 8

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni back into the pot with the cheese sauce. Stir well to combine until all the pasta is coated.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve the classic mac and cheese hot, garnished with additional cheese or herbs if desired.
