Cooking Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of salted water to a boil.

Cook Macaroni
Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce

Melt Butter
In the same pot over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter.

Add Flour
Once melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.

Add Milk
Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer.

Combining

Mix Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained macaroni back into the pot with the cheese sauce. Stir well to combine until all the pasta is coated.

Serve
Serve the classic mac and cheese hot, garnished with additional cheese or herbs if desired.
