Falafel Ingredients

Method

Falafel Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Soak the Chickpeas

Place the dried chickpeas in a bowl and cover them with water. Let them soak overnight or for at least 8 hours.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Falafel Mixture

Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, parsley, cilantro, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until the mixture is coarse but well combined.

  3. 3

    Form the Falafel Balls

Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls or patties, about 1.5 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

    Chill the Falafel

Place the formed falafel balls on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

  5. 5

    Fry the Falafel

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Fry the falafel in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove the falafel from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with tahini sauce, pita bread, or salad.
