Prepare the Patties
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Gruyère cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.

While the cheese is melting, toast the burger buns in a separate skillet or toaster until golden brown.
