Method
Cake Directions
- 1
Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Mix Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and stout until smooth and fully combined.
- 4
- 5
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Ganache Directions
- 6
Heat the Cream
In a small saucepan, bring the heavy cream to a simmer over medium heat.
- 7
Melt the Chocolate
Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the semisweet chocolate chips to the hot cream and let sit for 2-3 minutes without stirring.
- 8
Mix Ganache
Stir the mixture gently until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth. Let it cool for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
- 9
Assemble the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top. Place the second cake layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the entire cake, letting it drip down the sides.
