Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's hot when you put the brownies in.

Prepare the Baking Pan
Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the brownies.
Mixing Ingredients

Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and baking powder until well combined.

Melt Butter
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

Add Optional Ingredients
If desired, fold in chocolate chips and chopped walnuts into the brownie batter.
Baking

Pour Batter into Pan
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
