Method
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- 2
Knead and Rise
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Shape the Babas
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces. Shape them into balls and place them in a greased baba mold or muffin tin. Let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- 4
Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the babas for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- 5
- 6
Soak the Babas
While still warm, soak the babas in the rum syrup for a few minutes, turning them to ensure they are well coated.
- 7
Serve with Cream
Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Serve the soaked babas warm or at room temperature, topped with whipped cream.
