Preparation
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
3. Cream Butter and Sugar
In another bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter with the sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
4. Add Eggs and Extracts
Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture. Mix until fully combined and smooth.
5. Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
6. Fold in Add-ins
Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Baking
7. Scoop Cookies
Using a cookie scoop or two spoons, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a lined baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
8. Bake Cookies
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set.
9. Cool Cookies
Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
10. Dust with Powdered Sugar
Once the cookies are completely cool, dust them lightly with powdered sugar if desired.
