Method

Batter Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

  2. 2

    Add Beer

Slowly pour in the beer while whisking to create a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Set aside.

Fish Preparation

  1. 3

    Season the Cod

Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.

  2. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  3. 5

    Batter the Fish

Dip each seasoned cod fillet into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated.

  4. 6

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the battered cod fillets in the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 7

    Prepare the Tomato

Slice the tomato into thin rounds.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Sandwich

On each burger bun, place a lettuce leaf, a piece of fried cod, a slice of tomato, and a generous amount of tartar sauce on top. Place the top half of the bun to close the sandwich.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve the sandwiches hot with additional tartar sauce on the side, if desired.
