Method
Bread Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (110°F/43°C), sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour along with olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape the Loaf
Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- 6
Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- 7
Cool
Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Cultured Butter Preparation
- 8
Soften Butter
Let the unsalted butter sit at room temperature until softened.
- 9
Mix Butter and Buttermilk
In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter and cultured buttermilk. Mix until well combined and creamy.
- 10
Season
Add salt to taste and mix well.
- 11
Chill
Transfer the butter to a container and refrigerate until firm.
