Cooking Instructions
Prepare the Ingredients
Start by washing the broccoli rabe and trimming the ends. Slice the long hot peppers in half and remove seeds if desired. Mince the garlic cloves.
Cook the Pasta
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the bucatini pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.
Cook the Sausage
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it up into smaller pieces as it cooks.
Combine with Tomatoes
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, and season with salt and black pepper. Let simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Mix in Pasta
Add the drained bucatini to the skillet, tossing everything together. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add reserved pasta water until desired consistency is reached.
Finish with Basil
Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil leaves. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
Serve
Plate the bucatini alla norma, garnishing with additional basil if desired. Enjoy!
