Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beans

Rinse the pinto beans under cold water, then soak them in water overnight or for at least 6 hours. Drain and rinse again.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beans

In a large pot, cover the soaked beans with fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 1 to 1.5 hours or until beans are tender. Drain and set aside.

  3. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cumin, cooking for another minute until fragrant.

  4. 4

    Mash the Beans

Add the cooked beans to the skillet and pour in the broth. Mash the beans with a potato masher or fork to your desired consistency. You can leave them slightly chunky or make them smooth.

  5. 5

    Season and Cook

Season with salt and black pepper. Stir well and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken. Add more broth if necessary for desired consistency.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from heat and serve warm as a side dish or use as a filling for tacos, burritos, or other Mexican dishes.
