Flan Ingredients
Method
Flan Preparation
- 1
Make the Caramel
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the granulated sugar until it turns a golden brown. Carefully swirl the pan to ensure even melting. Once melted, quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of a round baking dish, tilting to cover the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
- 2
Prepare the Flan Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
- 3
Combine and Bake
Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish. Place the dish in a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- 4
Cool and Serve
Remove the flan from the oven and the water bath. Allow it to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight). To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert it onto a serving plate, and drizzle with the caramel sauce.
