Preparation
- 1
Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.
- 2
Steep the Hibiscus
Once the water is boiling, add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers to the pot. Remove from heat and let steep for about 15-20 minutes.
- 3
Strain the Mixture
After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove the hibiscus flowers. Discard the flowers.
- 4
Sweeten the Agua
While the hibiscus tea is still warm, stir in 1 tablespoon of sugar until dissolved. Adjust sweetness to your taste.
- 5
Add Lime Juice
Once the tea has cooled slightly, add 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice and stir well.
- 6
Serve Cold
Add 2 cups of ice to the pitcher. Pour the Agua de Jamaica into glasses and garnish with lime slices and mint leaves if desired.
