Method

Preparing the Brisket

  1. 1

    Sear the Brisket

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the brisket with salt and black pepper. Once the oil is hot, add the brisket and sear on both sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Slow Cooker

Transfer the seared brisket to a slow cooker. Add sliced onions, minced garlic, beef broth, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and ground cumin to the slow cooker, ensuring the brisket is well-coated with the mixture.

  3. 3

    Cook the Brisket

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the brisket is tender and easily shredded with a fork.

Preparing the Mashed Potatoes

  1. 4

    Boil the Potatoes

In a large pot, add quartered potatoes and cover with water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium and cook until potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 5

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.

Making the Gravy

  1. 6

    Prepare the Gravy

In a small saucepan, combine the beef broth from the brisket with cornstarch mixed in water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
